Ask sight loss coach Donna J. Jodhan – How to know when an email is a hacking one

Ask the Coach!

November 09 2023

My name is Donna Jodhan and I am using my extensive experience as a sight loss coach as well as my lived experience to share and respond to questions that are submitted to me and I also invite you to share your thoughts on questions asked.

For this week:  a question from Tai in Kansas City Missouri.

Tai would like to know how to identify when an email is a hacking one.

My response:

Tai, here are a few hints.

If the email is not written using proper grammar and spelling then this is a give away.

If the email is asking you to divulge such things as your banking details or your email address then this is yet another tell tale.

If the email asks you to login to a specified url then this is another give away.

I hope this helps.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Tell us what you think!  Share your feedback and let’s get more ideas cracking!

It’s important for us to share how we do things!

To contact me with a question or a thought; please send an email to me at donnajodhan@gmail.com and I’ll be sure to respond in 5 business days at the most.

If you wish me to respond earlier then put the word important in your subject line and I’ll do my best to respond more quickly.

Until the next time then!

I’m Donna wishing you a pleasant day and thanking everyone for their insightful feedback and suggestions!

Words That Open Doors – Let’s Pay More Attention To This

Words that open doors.

I don’t think that anyone would be surprised when I say that there are two very important words that can open any door for me.  They are words that my parents and granny taught me as a child and drummed into my head all the way through.

They are words that are so often forgotten when we make a request and when we express our gratitude.  So what are they?  Why!  the two magic words; thanks and please!  They are two little magic words that helped to open doors for me.

So often we forget to attach either of these two words to the end of a sentence.  Thanks when someone else does something nice or important for us and please when we make a request of someone and someone else’s time.

We normally forget to add either of these two words in times when taking someone else for granted.  Or when we fail to stop and think that we are encroaching on someone else’s time.  Or too often we fail to realize that we are asking someone to give of their resources or to go out of their way to help us.  In short, we often fail to use either of these two words because we do not appreciate that someone else has given selflessly of themselves in order to help us.

Time for us to start paying more attention to Thanks and Please!

My final thoughts?

The world really needs to wake up and pay more attention to these 2 very magical words; thanks and please!

Just my two cents for today.

1)  Best Of Helpful Hints: The Best Of Hints

For The Bathroom: Ceramic Tile:

* Turtle Wax (car wax) is an excellent tile cleaner and refinisher. Rub in well with a soft cloth, let stand for 10 minutes. Do not let it dry too thoroughly. Polish with a clean cloth or better yet, buff with an electric buffer. Your tiles will sparkle like new.

* Try cleaning with a solution of sal soda concentrate, the strength depending on the extent of the soil. To the stubborn cracks, apply the sal dry with a stiff brush.

* Clean the recessed spaces between tiles with an ordinary typewriter eraser or rub with a white nail pencil.

* Make a paste of baking soda and bleach and scrub with a small brush.

* Also, before you start cleaning the bathroom walls, fill the tub with the hottest tap water available. Dirt loosened by steam will come off faster.

2)  Best Of Helpful Hints: The Best Of Hints

For The Bathroom: Clogged Shower Head

* If your shower head is clogged from lime and mineral deposits, try boiling it in 1/2 cup white vinegar and 1 quart of water for 15 minutes or so. For plastic shower heads, soak in a hot vinegar and water solution.

How Hard Is It? Really? – Time To Speak Out

How hard is it? Really?

So many times we choose to complain and explain but in reality if we were to take the time not to do these two things it would not be as hard really!  For after all; Her Majesty the late Queen Elizabeth did this for over 70 years now.

She never complained and she never explained.

For too many times we complain and then try to explain instead of concentrating more on putting forth suggestions, thoughts,  and solutions  In short, it is becoming a great stress point each time we say something like “It is not enough” rather than saying it is a good start so now let us build on this.

Maybe we are just too used to complaining and explaining instead of trying to build on a starting point and then concentrating on helping to make it better than possible.

We need to include more positive feedback into our lives.  We need to tell ourselves that this is not as hard as we may think.

Let’s try this strategy and see if we can help to improve ourselves and our world!

My final thought?  Let us cheer more loudly and complain more softly!

Just my two cents for today.

A review of the Lisbon Airport – extremely accessible with warm and welcming staff

A review of the Lisbon Airport
By Donna Jodhan
Award winning advocate and sight loss coach

Introduction:
What makes this airport stand out is all about the staff and how they go about offering their services to travelers with special needs.
Even when I lost my luggage the airport staff rose to the occasion and helped my friend and I to locate it quickly.

So how would I rate their services? With 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest, here are my ratings.
Service desk assistance – 5
Assistance for passengers with special needs – 5
Assistance at shops and restaurants – 5

Remarks :
Access to restaurants was extremely user friendly for a vision impaired person and navigating among the tables was not very difficult.

About airport staff:
They went above the call of duty and their English skills were impeccable.

My meals:
Excellent!

Any suggestions?
Just keep up your wonderful work!
Hats off to you!

Welcome to my Donna’s did you know diary for this month and pleased to share the following with you.

Here’s what I learned for this month.

  • 2 great ways to help you avoid a urinary infection.

Drink lots of water and

Drink lots of cranberry juice

Or you can even take daily doses of cranberry pills.

  • Looking for ways to stifle closet odors?

Put some water in a bowl then add a few drops of vinegar.

Place the bowl in a corner of your closet.

  • And here is something useful to know about the term LOL as used in emails or in texts:

LOL seems to be out of date now.

It has been replaced by the term IJBOL

And this stands for I just burst out laughing

  • Looking for a way to moisturize your meat?

Rub it generously with some honey.

  • If you want your dishes to dry quickly after washing them and putting them in your dish rack then here’s how:

Rinse your dishes in warm to hot water before placing them in your dish rack.

  • How to revive your sleepiness?

If you find yourself wanting to remove sleep from you on a morning, then try this.

Splash some cool water over your face.

Wait a few seconds and voila!  It works!

  • About coconut water!

If you find it looks cloudy, then better not to drink it!

  • About wi-fi connections at hotels?

They are often not very stable and reliable.

Although they are improving.

Wi-fi connections on a river boat are also improving.

Ask sight loss coach Donna J. Jodhan – how to descend wet steps

Ask the Coach!

October 23 2023

My name is Donna Jodhan and I am using my extensive experience as a sight loss coach as well as my lived experience to share and respond to questions that are submitted to me and I also invite you to share your thoughts on questions asked.

For this week:  a question from Lewis in Atlanta Georgia.

Lewis is looking for ways to descend wet steps.

My response:

Lewis, this is a very good question and for me, I do the following.

I go slowly and I put one foot in front of the other.

I believe that the trick is to be very careful and if there is a hand rail then I hold on to it as I make my descent.

Reason or Excuse? Time to Speak Up!

Reason or excuse?

Too often we tend to use the excuse rather than the reason.  What I mean is this.

Each time we use an excuse as to why we are unable to either complete or commit to something it means that we are depriving ourselves of offering a reason as to why we can complete or commit.  I am of the firm belief that too many of us find it easier to offer an excuse as opposed to offering a reason.

For me, an excuse is the easy way out and it simply makes us look unprofessional and weak.  On the other hand, the reason makes us look strong and ready to work.

True it is that in some very unexpected circumstances, an excuse is the way to go; an emergency or an unexpected matter but on the whole I respectfully submit that we need to think more of leaving the excuse behind and replacing it with a reason.

In short; an excuse is simply a way to withdraw and a reason is a way to move forward.

My final thoughts?  If we are truly serious to commit more then we need to replace excuses for not doing with reasons for doing!

For if we do not and do it soon, we will not be able to change our present situation.

Just my two cents for today.
