Welcome to my Donna’s did you know diary for March and pleased to share the following with you.

Here’s what I learned for this month.

1)A bit of interesting trivia

“Bald eagles primarily eat fish and can live up to 40 years in the wild. Furthermore, they are monogamous and remain faithful to their mate until death. These amazing birds are especially renowned for their excellent eyesight. Eagles have two foveae, or centers of focus, in the retina of each eye that allow them to see both forward and to the side at the same time. (Human retinas have only one.)

Depending on which way an eagle looks, the lens of its eye focuses an image on one fovea or the other. The rear fovea is for forward, stereoscopic vision, and the other is for looking sideways. Both foveae are more densely lined with rods and cones than those of human eyes, giving them much greater resolving power.

Eagles have color vision, and while their eyes are not as large as a human’s, their sharpness is at least four times that of a person with perfect vision. While soaring, gliding, or flapping, they are capable of seeing fish in the water from several hundred feet above the surface or identify a rabbit moving almost a mile away. An eagle flying in a fixed position at an altitude of 1,000 feet could spot prey as small as a mouse over an area of almost three square miles!

2)         Okay, and what is the difference between ointment and cream?

Ointment is thicker than cream and more care needs to be taken when spreading ointment.

It is easier to spread cream.

3)         About one’s hands

The hand’s complex anatomy consists of 27 bones, 27 joints, 34 muscles, over 100 ligaments and  tendons, numerous blood vessels, nerves, and soft tissue. It is important to understand the normal  anatomy of the hand in order to learn about diseases and conditions that can affect our hands.

Our ability to function in everyday life depends a great deal on our hands.  Feeding one’s self, bathing and a wide range of other tasks would not be  possible without hands.  It’s hard to imagine a life without two of them, but we all have seen or known some who has had to make such a life changing adjustment.

4)  What exactly is a sheet pan?

Well, a sheet pan is used when cooking veggies and meat together.

It is good for one meal combinations.

5) What’s this about tea?

Brewing tea leaves tastes better than using a tea bag.

6)  About prolonging the life of strawberries?

Cut them up into small slices and sprinkle sugar over them.

Store in a container.

  1. About your phone charger?

It consists of the connector and a charger block

you insert one end of the connector into the block

and the other end into your I device.

8) Making it easier to cut your nails?

Soak your nails in warm water for just a few minutes before cutting.

That’s it for this month.

Ask Coach Donna J.Jodhan – Where to Find a Good Versatile Bottle Opener

Ask the Coach!

March 20 2023

My name is Donna Jodhan and I am using my extensive experience as a sight loss coach as well as my lived experience to share and respond to questions that are submitted to me and I also invite you to share your thoughts on questions asked.

For this week:  a question from Jamie in Stockholm Sweden.

Jamie is looking for a good versatile bottle opener.

My response:

Jamie, a few months ago I bought a very versatile bottle opener named the six in one bottle opener.

I can open capped bottles, wine bottles, and bottles with hard to maneuver corks.

I bought this at the www.blindmicemegamall.com website

I also use a bottle opener that is round in shape.

It has a space at the bottom for you to insert the cork of the capped bottle and then you screw it tightly with the handle of this device.

Then you start using the handle to turn the bottle to the left.  This too works.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Tell us what you think!  Share your feedback and let’s get more ideas cracking!

It’s important for us to share how we do things!

To contact me with a question or a thought; please send an email to me at donnajodhan@gmail.com and I’ll be sure to respond in 5 business days at the most.

If you wish me to respond earlier then put the word important in your subject line and I’ll do my best to respond more quickly.

Until the next time then!

I’m Donna wishing you a pleasant day and thanking everyone for their insightful feedback and suggestions!

5) The Salt Keep (iOS/iPadOS, US$4.99)
A novel-length text adventure (RPG meets CYOA) full of mystery and danger. Make choices and explore as you struggle to survive in a world of medieval fantasy and horror.
The Salt Keep is a text adventure (think interactive fiction with Choose Your Own Adventure and RPG mechanics) and should feel familiar to fans of classic gamebooks and fantasy fiction in general.
* THE STORY – Set in a high fantasy world with low fantasy stakes, the character-driven story of The Salt Keep follows a struggling merchant named Doyle who stumbles into a life-or-death mystery. During the last legs of a months-long journey as a traveling salesman, Doyle stops in the seemingly deserted village of Cardwyke to meet a friend who has promised to help keep him financially afloat, but what he finds is even more dangerous than the crushing weight of debt.
* THE SETTING – The world of The Salt Keep should be familiar to any fan of fantasy — it has breastplates, and swords, and other fun stuff like that — but is shaped by the vaguely industrial and creeping decline of feudalism. Sprawling merchant conglomerates and faceless business structures pull the levers of power as much as the dukes and knights.
The world is meant to be both a reflection of traditional fantasy settings (the England-coded sword and sorcery and D&D-style locations we’re used to) and an answer to some of their most frustrating tropes. It’s not a world of prophesied heroes doing Great Man Theory or of grimdark anti-heroes exposing the essential evil of humanity, but of ordinary medieval schlubs trying to survive within alienating and oppressive political systems.

Current Version: 1.0.8 (February 7, 2023)

Ask Coach Donna J. Jodhan – How to Avoid Spills When taking Ice Cubes to the Freezer

Ask the Coach!

March 13 2023

My name is Donna Jodhan and I am using my extensive experience as a sight loss coach as well as my lived experience to share and respond to questions that are submitted to me and I also invite you to share your thoughts on questions asked.

For this week:  a question from Brent in Orlando Florida.

Brent wants to know of a way to avoid spilling water from ice cube trays when putting them in the freezer.

My response:

Brent, I always found this to be a challenge until I discovered and bought a set of covered ice cubes.

The ice cubes for this tray are on the small side but they do the trick.

Just fill you’re ice trays with water and then place the covers firmly on the trays and then put them into your freezer.

Aside from this, the only other thing that I can suggest is to be super careful when you carry the ordinary ice trays from your kitchen sink to the freezer.

Make sure that the freezer door is open widely to avoid bumping the ice trays against it.

Then place your ice trays on a flat surface in your freezer.

Try not to over fill your ice trays with water.

From the pages of Donna’s diary
Carry on versus suitcase

There are definite advantages to both but I will state that the suitcase is the preferred alternative for me because I have had lots of challenges fitting everything into a carry on and in addition I need to organize everything in an orderly manner so that I know hwat matches with what and I believe that the suitcase is better for me.

In the case of a carry on, you don’t need to worry about having to collect it at the baggage carrisol and thus your wait time is greatly diminished and no having to be concerned about clearing customs.
A carry on gives you easy access to your stuff while aboard the plane and everything is packed in a very compact manner.
The disadvantage as I see it is that if you are traveling for any length of time then a carry on may pose limitations on what you can bring along.

The advantage to a suitcase is that you can take more, spread out your clothes in the suitcase but you do need to consider having to put up with having to collect it at the baggage carrisol and to have to clear customs.

It is all a matter of choice and preference. It appears that more travelers are opting for a carry on but then again there are greater limitations when it comes to the size of the carry on. Some folks prefer a carry on when going on a cruise because they can keep their carry on with them rather than having to surrender it to staff before boarding the ship and before disembarking. I however will stick to my suitcase.

I’m Donna J. Jodhan enjoying my travels.

Ask Coach Donna J. Jodhan – About Talking Thermometers

Ask the Coach!

March 06 2023

My name is Donna Jodhan and I am using my extensive experience as a sight loss coach as well as my lived experience to share and respond to questions that are submitted to me and I also invite you to share your thoughts on questions asked.

For this week:  a question from Linda in Washington DC.

Linda is looking for a talking thermometer and wants to know if they exist

My response:

Linda, they sure do.  A few months ago I bought a nifty little one that has a probe at the end.

You can use it to test your meat when baking, to obtain the temperature in your home, and much more.

It is quite versatile and the probe is protected by a plastic shield.

It is also well priced and runs on batteries.

I bought this from the www.blindmicemegamall.com website.
