Welcome to my Donna’s did you know diary for February and pleased to share the following with you.

Here’s what I learned for this month.

  • How can you tell that jade is real?

Why!  It is cold to the touch.

  • About the behaviour of the sea!

Best time of the year to swim in the sea is during the months of July, August, and September when the sea is calmest.

The sea is usually roughest in December and January.

And the sea is usually highly populated with those jelly fish that sting during March and April.  Their colours are normally pink or blue.

  • About travel seasons!

Low season is usually from early April to mid December and high season is usually from Mid December to end of March.

  • Having problems getting rid of those persistent paint smells?

Just place a bowl of water in the corner of the room where the smells are coming from

And add a few drops of white vinegar to the bowl of water.

  • Differences when cooking with gas versus cooking with electricity

Gas cooks faster but food does not stay warm as long as when cooking with electricity.

Gas cooks faster than electricity.

  • An interesting tidbit on ketchup:

There seems to be 2 different types of ketchup on the market today:

Tomato and o yes!  Ketchup made from papaya.

  • An important tip on beer!

Before serving or offering beer, check its colour and if it is dark then it is not good.

  • Now, if you have 2 copies in your hand of the same document, how can you tell which is the copy and which is the original?

The copy’s letter head will always appear in black and the original’s letter head will be in either blue or another colour.

That’s it for this month.

Don’t forget to drop me an email at donnajodhan@gmail.com

Don’t be shy!  Share your thoughts and feedback!

From Coach Donna J. Jodhan – How to Keep your Recipes organized

Ask the Coach!

February 20 2023

My name is Donna Jodhan and I am using my extensive experience as a sight loss coach as well as my lived experience to share and respond to questions that are submitted to me and I also invite you to share your thoughts on questions asked.

For this week:  a question from Tim in Brisbane Australia.

Tim would like to find tips on keeping his recipes organized.

My response:

Tim, there are several ways to organize your recipes.  You can either organize them by using those handy dandy recipe cards and then organize them in alphabetic order or you can organize them by category.

The preferred way for me is to do it electronically.  I organize my recipes into specific categories and in alphabetic order.  So that each recipe is in a separate document.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Tell us what you think!  Share your feedback and let’s get more ideas cracking!

It’s important for us to share how we do things!

To contact me with a question or a thought; please send an email to me at donnajodhan@gmail.com and I’ll be sure to respond in 5 business days at the most.

If you wish me to respond earlier then put the word important in your subject line and I’ll do my best to respond more quickly.

Until the next time then!

I’m Donna wishing you a pleasant day and thanking everyone for their insightful feedback and suggestions!

Ask Coach Donna J. Jodhan – How to handle someone who wants to speak up for you.

Ask the Coach!

February 13 2023

My name is Donna Jodhan and I am using my extensive experience as a sight loss coach as well as my lived experience to share and respond to questions that are submitted to me and I also invite you to share your thoughts on questions asked.

For this week:  a question from Harvey in Atlanta Georgia.

Harvy would like to know how to handle someone who wants to speak up for him.

My response:

Harvey, I think that in this case you need to be firm and make sure that you tell that someone that you are fully capable of speaking up for yourself.

If you are not firm and assertive then the person who wants to speak up for you may not get the message.

The trick of the trade here is for you to ensure that you tell this person that you are fully capable of speaking up for yourself.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Tell us what you think!  Share your feedback and let’s get more ideas cracking!

It’s important for us to share how we do things!

Tips For The Newborn

* to allow mother a few extra hours sleep, use perfume freely on yourself when baby first comes home from the hospital. Later dab your perfume on baby’s crib sheets or pillow. He/she will smell the mama smell and feel safe and content.
* If baby bubbles a bit after feedings, and must be changed frequently to keep him/her smelling sweet, try this: moisten a cloth with water, dip it into baking soda and dab at the dribble. The odor will disappear.
* Use baby’s infant seat for bathing in the bathtub. Remove pad and buckle strap and place a large folded bath towel in the seat. Place baby in seat, and put in water. Now you can use both hands.

* Keep a heating pad beside baby’s crib and when he/she is up for his night feedings, turn the pad on warm and place on crib matress. When you put baby back down, his/her bed will be nice and warm and he/she will settle down more quickly. Be sure to remove the heating pad.

River boat cruises?

I have always dreamed of embarking on one of these as I consider it to be a different type of adventure. Especially so for those on any of the more popular European rivers.

However, river boat cruises may be in jeopardy for 2023 if these beloved rivers are unable to garner and gather enough water in order to boost their water levels so that ships can sail and cruise safely. In short, due to an unbelievable hot season for 2022 governed by climate change, water levels have dropped to perilous levels.

Here are some tips if you are contemplating a river boat cruise.
Boats are much smaller than those cruising the high seas.
Up to 150 guests are accepted.
You can procure a room on either side of the ship that gives you access to window and balcony views.
Cruises range from 7 days to 9 days or 10 days and even more.
You get a chance to see so many senic views of cities and towns situated on any of the rivers.

So if you are patient and passionate, give this idea a second look.
My preference is for a cruise on the Danube.

How to navigate the produce section of a supermarket

Ask the Coach!

February 06 2023

My name is Donna Jodhan and I am using my extensive experience as a sight loss coach as well as my lived experience to share and respond to questions that are submitted to me and I also invite you to share your thoughts on questions asked.

For this week:  a question from  Olga in Brussels Belgium.

Olga is looking for tips on how to navigate the produce section of a supermarket.

My response:

Olga, whenever I go to the produce section of a supermarket, I almost always ask a sighted friend or family member to escort me.  I need to ensure that what I am buying is fresh and that there are no wilting leaves on the lettuce as an example.

I also need to ensure that such things as tomatoes, cucumbers, and other types of greens are fresh.  The same for the salad.

I think that if I need to ensure that what I buy is fresh then I do need to have sighted assistance.  The trick is to ensure that my produce is fresh, looks healthy, and not looking wilted.
