And when most of us truly believe that August is one of the quietest months when it comes to generating initiatives, here is how Donna changed this for August.

Donna engaged in providing a high level evaluation and review to Café Pacific for their draft proposal on the Accessible Canada Act.

Next, Air Transat reached out to her to ask if she would be interested to join their committee on accessibility issues and she accepted.

Next she accepted a contract position with the Knowbility Organization based in the United States.

And finally she continued to engage and communicate with the Carroll Center to identify opportunities to work with them.

Donna looks forward to unveiling some announcements early in the fall.

Welcome to my Donna’s did you know diary for this month and pleased to share the following with you.

Here’s what I learned for this month.

  • Some types of vacation for you to keep in mind:

Vacation – away from home.

Stay cation – vacation at home

Work cation – a combination of a vacation or stay cation and working while you vacation.

  • And what do the sleep experts recommend for the right number of hours for sleep at night?

According to them 7 to 8 hours.

Guess I need to increase my own number of hours.

  • This may be a bit late for the summer but never the less:

There are 2 types of sun rays and these are UVA and UVV.

It is always better to use sun protectors that are lotions as opposed to using a spray and why?

Because you stand less of a chance of inhaling your sun protector.

  • Some suggestions for flavouring your water?

You can use any of the following:

Slices of lemon or orange

Slices of cucumber

Lettuce leaves.

  • Here is an interesting tip on plants.

Yes indeed!  They help to purify the around them and a good idea to keep them in your home.

  • About dandruff?

Dandruff comes about as a result of a dry scalp and shampoo conditioner really does not help.

You should be looking at using an overnight serum product to help you here.

  • And it’s all about diamonds!

Did you know that there are home grown diamonds and natural diamonds?

Home grown diamonds come from labs

While natural diamonds come from mines.

The natural diamonds are more expensive than the home grown ones.

  • What is the difference between a bloody Caesar and a bloody Mary?

The bloody Caesar is made using Motts Clomato juice

While the bloody Mary is used using tomato juice.

The Mobile App Dilemma – Time To Speak Up

Technology sure has left large groups of consumers and customers in a very serious predicament and what am I referring to now?

I am referring to a very sobering fact!  This being that as more and more business places over a widening plethora of industries move to demanding and requesting that customers and consumers engage and communicate with them through mobile devices and apps; it means that some very important bread and butter consumers and customers are both being left out and forgotten!

Here are my thoughts!

Seniors who are either intimidated by mobile technology, do not possess a mobile device, do not own computers, do not use the Internet, and who cannot even afford to pay for proper Internet connections are either being forgotten, left out, or a bit or much of both.

In short, they are being left out in the cold!

Persons with disabilities who continue to be challenged with having to use mobile apps that are not accessible, usable, or navigable; they too are both being forgotten and left behind.  They too are being left out in the cold!

We are dealing with a rapidly aging population and this is a fact of life that too many businesses still seem to be either unaware of or they are choosing to bury their heads in the sand when it comes to this picture.  In short they are hoping that a miracle will descend and make things right.

Too many businesses are failing to either realize all of this or they naively believe that they can simply push or bully customers and consumers into using mobile technology.  I agree that mobile technology will be the way to go moving forward but please!  We need to find immediate ways to meet the requirements and needs of those mentioned above.

Telling a person that they can get around this by asking a friend or family member to assist is a poor excuse and as I would respectfully submit it is humiliating, insulting, and downright disrespectful!  I can only urge businesses to please do something about this!

My final thoughts?  Each time that a mobile app is not accessible for a person who is either a senior or one with a vision impairment or any other person with a disability,

It means that our independence,, privacy, and confidentiality are all being deprived.

Just my two cents for today.

1) Best Of Helpful Hints: The Kitchen

Baking With Ease: How To Make A Heart-Shaped Cake

* First, make a round cake and a square cake. Cut the round cake in half. Then, turn the square cake so the corners face you, and it appears to be a diamond shape rather than square. Place each half of the round cake on the two upper most sides of the diamond and you now have a perfectly heart-shaped cake.

_____

2) Best Of Helpful Hints: The Kitchen

Baking With Ease: Five Equal Pie Pieces

* Cut a “Y” in the pie and then cut the two large pieces in half. You will then have 5 pieces exactly the same size.

A review of the Life Labs facility at Fairview Mall drive – success!

A review of the Life Labs facility at Fairview Mall drive
By Donna Jodhan
Award winning advocate and sight loss coach

Introduction:
It sure helps when you find a medical facility where staff is well trained and there exists a very friendly, welcoming, and accessible environment.

So how would I rate their services? With 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest, here are my ratings.
Service desk assistance – 5
Assistance for patients with special needs – 5
Assistance at lab – 5

Remarks :
Access to the lab was extremely user friendly for a vision impaired person and navigating around the lab itself and finding a seat was not very difficult.

About lab staff:
They were very helpful and went above the call of duty.

Any suggestions?
Just keep up the great work.

The Kids Who Cannot Advocate For Themselves – Voices In The Wilderness

The kids who cannot advocate for themselves.

No, they are just unable to do so and each time we either intentionally or inadvertently snuff out their lives it means that we are guilty of depriving them of their futures.

This sure reminds me of a song that the Carpenters made so popular and this verse shall forever stand out in my mind.  It goes something like this.

“Bless the beasts and the children!  For in this world they have no voice!  They have no choice!”

Absolutely correct so now what can we do to change this?  More listening and less shouting?  More tutoring and guiding and less pushing and bullying?  Kids learn from adults and I humbly submit that if we become better advocates for them then they in turn will follow our example and become even better advocates for the future.

My final thoughts?

They are our present and our future and we must protect them at all costs!  For if we don’t? we are nowhere!

Just my two cents for today.

Ask Coach Donna J. Jodhan – What you should put in your purse versus your carry on when flying

Ask the Coach!

August 17 2023

My name is Donna Jodhan and I am using my extensive experience as a sight loss coach as well as my lived experience to share and respond to questions that are submitted to me and I also invite you to share your thoughts on questions asked.

For this week:  a question from Nina in Rio Brazil.

Nina wants to know what she should put in her purse when flying rather than her carry on.

My response:

Nina, for me personally, here is what I keep close to me in my purse.

Passport, wallet with my ID cards, credit cards, money, hair brush,

Hand tissues, hand sanitizer, wet ones,

Address book, and then you need to determine what else you need to keep close to you.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Tell us what you think!  Share your feedback and let’s get more ideas cracking!

It’s important for us to share how we do things!

To contact me with a question or a thought; please send an email to me at donnajodhan@gmail.com and I’ll be sure to respond in 5 business days at the most.

If you wish me to respond earlier then put the word important in your subject line and I’ll do my best to respond more quickly.

Until the next time then!

I’m Donna wishing you a pleasant day and thanking everyone for their insightful feedback and suggestions!

7) Zanagrams (iOS/iPadOS, Free With In-App Purchases)
Word puzzles just got a whole lot better.
Exercise your brain during your downtime with this new unique twist on word-puzzles you’ve come to know and love.
Each puzzle contains six clues you’ll aim to find the one-word answers for. Each answer is broken-up into groups of two or three letters, presented as buttons in the lower portion of your screen, and jumbled for your brain-teasing enjoyment. Try to spell out each of the answers in the puzzle by tapping buttons to add them to your spelling.
Zanagrams will automatically detect if you’ve spelled any of the answers in the puzzle you’re working on, and any of the buttons you used to spell that answer will be permanently-disabled to narrow-down your choices. By the time you finish a puzzle, you’ll have used every button once.

*Play randomized versions of puzzles you’ve already completed for endless fun!
*Use hints to reveal the next group of letters in a word when you get stuck.
