4) From Your Eyes (iOS/iPadOS, Free)
From Your Eyes is an assistant technology that brings together human and artificial intelligence and offers both fast and qualified visual explanation service to visually impaired and visually impaired users. There are three hundred and thirty million visually impaired people worldwide. One million of them are in Turkey, and ten million are in the United States. FYE consists of three parts: visually impaired users, trainable artificial intelligence services and descriptors. Visually impaired users can take any photo or select an image from their existing library and upload it to the application. Artificial intelligence delivers a draft description to the user immediately after the visual is loaded into the application. If the visually impaired user thinks that this draft description should be improved, he can also enter the description section in which aspect he wants it to be detailed and send it to the descriptors with a single click.
This request reaches the descriptors as a notification. When a descriptor enters the application, it selects an image from the request pool and makes written improvements to the text by comparing the image and the draft description. The process ends when the advanced draft is sent back to the user. The underlying AI services learn about these improvements with machine learning.

The Complaints Syndrome – How Do We Solve This Very Real And Chronic Problem?

The complaints syndrome.

This is a syndrome that continues to haunt Canadians with disabilities and over the years despite so many promises to fix or rectify this it continues to linger and in some cases it continues to grow.  Broken promises are the order of the day.

Canadians with disabilities are just simply too tired of listening to broken promises.  They continue to stand by helplessly as respondents continue to take advantage of those Federal Departments that do not seem able to stand up to their actions and their deep pockets.  Federal departments are either simply too lazy or do not have the technical resources or ability to fix and rectify.

There is more than enough blame to go around here.  From the continuing saga of not providing forms and documents in accessible formats to online complaint forms that are difficult to navigate, use, and almost impossible to work with.

It is not for a lack of trying to convince these Federal departments that they need to fix their complaints processes.  Sadly enough, they know this only too well but who really knows what is keeping them back?

As for respondents, can one really blame them for using their deep pockets to wear down and flout the efforts of complainants?  They know only too well that complaints processes are thwarted with gaping holes!  In addition, they also know that several of these departments do not show much inclination to deploy the lenses of disability rights when dealing with complaints.

So here is the picture for what it is worth.

Too many Federal Government departments with broken down and horribly inadequate complaints processes that are inaccessible.

Online forms that are extremely difficult to navigate and use because of their inaccessibility.

Federal departments that appear to lack the understanding necessary in order to deal with complaints through lenses of disability rights.

Respondents that continue to use their deep pockets to either wear down complainants or to entice complainants to accept what could be deemed as either buy outs or bribes.

Complainants who are either financially starved or legally disabled or both and as a result do not possess the tools to mount any sort of defense, offence, or anything else.

My final thoughts?  This syndrome is only going to continue unless there is meaningful engagement and communications amongst all stakeholders.

Just my two cents for today

Welcome to my Donna’s did you know diary for this month and pleased to share the following with you.

Here’s what I learned for this month.

  • If you wish to keep the sugar in your jar nice and fresh!

Place a slice of bread in with your sugar.

You can leave the slice whole or cut it in half.

  • Okay, this may be June but what if your power goes?

It does not matter what time of the year it is.

Put some ice in a pan and place it in your fridge and presto!

It will keep your fridge cool.

If it is winter and you have access to snow in your backyard, driveway, or on your balcony:

Put said snow in a pan and then place in your fridge.

Keeps things cool for quite some time as long as you keep the fridge closed and not open it too often.

  • And here is a suggestion for the right amount of laundry detergent to use when doing your laundry:

2 table spoons.

  • For those who wondered, the ten major systems which keep us functioning each day include:

the skeletal,

muscular,

nervous,

endocrine,

cardiovascular,

lymphatic,

respiratory,

digestive,

urinary,

and the reproductive system.

  • And here is a useful tip when it comes to coffee:

Even if you were to drink one cup of coffee in the morning; it can raise your blood pressure.

So if you wish to test your blood pressure for the day, make sure to do this at least two hours after drinking your cup of coffee.

  • 2 useful things to consider if you are thinking of losing weight:

Reduce your stress levels

Drink more water.

  • What’s this about the Cat fish?

They are known as bottom feeders.

Meaning that they feed on garbage.

  • things to consider when thinking of losing weight:
  • Handy tips to help control snoring:

Consider sleeping on your side instead of on your back

  • A tip on water melon:

Probably best not to include water melon in a fruit salad.

It turns soggy quickly and it spoils the other fruits in your fruit salad.

And what am I talking about now?  After having spent the last six months carrying out informal interviews with various levels of staff from the banking industry, I have come to the conclusion that alas!  A very growing and concerning syndrome has crept quietly into our landscape and unfortunately it is going to be both customers, clients, and dedicated staff who are going to suffer at the hands of those higher up management who have unfortunately assumed that certain requirements need to be fulfilled no matter what and woe to those growing groups of very important consumers; seniors and persons with disabilities.

I guess that it is coming down to a matter of the higher ups in companies deliberately choosing to do all that they can to increase their bottom lines at the expense of the more vulnerable and you know what?  Whenever the going gets tough for these folks in their ivory towers the first thing that they do is to cut services to the vulnerable so why should I be surprised anyway?

In my humble opinion, higher levels of management in not just the banking industry but in several other industries as well have decided that ready or not the online way is the right way to go!  Mobile apps and mobile banking is the way to go!  Using apps to carry out tasks such as ordering, purchasing, and engaging and communicating with the world is the only way to go.  Then when you have developers who ought to know better deliberately developing apps that clearly ignore the needs of those with vision challenges it only serves to rub salt in the wounds!

The heck with those seniors who either do not own or know how to use a cell phone!  The heck with a growing group of consumers who either do not have access to wi-fi, do not know how to cope, do not have the training, or who simply cannot afford to keep up with the online landscape!  In short this picture is riddled with decision makers who appear to have tunnel vision.  Who have not taken the time to engage and communicate with those groups who are directly affected; their own staff, and seniors and persons with disabilities.

My research has also revealed that too many mainstream consumers feel the very same way!  So what is driving this very unhealthy syndrome?  A need to satisfy the urge to rough ride over the real needs of important stake holders?  A wanton disregard for the needs of the said groups mentioned above?  Or maybe it is simply decision makers who have missed the boat completely and who find it easier to give in to their own desires instead of taking time to sit down and to start thinking outside the box!

My final thought?  I am afraid that the assumption syndrome will only continue to be a real barrier for as long as companies continue to have their heads in the sand!

Just my two cents for today!

A review of my family physician’s clinic

A review of my family physician’s clinic
By Donna Jodhan
Award winning advocate and sight loss coach

Introduction:
I have been visiting my family physician’s clinic for several years now and I am proud to share that this is probably one of the most accessible clinics; both for layout and services.

So how would I rate their services? With 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest, here are my ratings.
Service desk assistance – 5
Assistance for patients with special needs – 5
Assistance at the office – 5

Remarks :
This office is well laid out so there is not much to complain about when it comes to being able to find a seat at the office or to find a patient room.

About clinic staff:
They are very helpful, welcoming and more often than not they go above the call of duty.

Services:
Excellent all the way.

Any suggestions?
Just keep up the excellent work!

The Pandemic Perpetrators – Who Are They?

Who are they?  They are the scammers who continue to work under the cover of the pandemic using their scams and schemes to play havoc with our lives.  Who are the victims?  Everyone but in particular; seniors and those with disabilities!  In short, the most vulnerable.

The Pandemic Perpetrators are becoming more and more creative and cunning.  They are even managing to conn those who should know better; those poor unsuspecting folks who think that they are perpetrator and scam proof because they are a bit too sure of themselves.

I recently witnessed this first hand for myself when I saw how someone who I thought should know better become entrapped.

This person has become involved with a very enticing multi level marketing scheme!  They have gotten themselves deeply immersed in an initiative where they truly believe that they can help others to create so-called lucrative business opportunities for themselves  and lo and behold!  The better business bureau of America is warning that this Pandemic Perpetrator is in the midst of some very serious fraud investigations!

This person really believes what they are selling but alas!  They are falling way short of being able to fully explain this so-called lucrative initiative but you know when you are about to be snowed when they are unable to fully explain the initiative and then they are unable to deliver on promised materials in a timely manner.

We need to be more aware of our immediate surroundings.  We need to look before we leap, think before we commit, and ask all of the relevant questions before doing anything else.

My final thought?  Scammers and scams are never going to go away so we might as well accept this and work to find ways to curtail their actions!

Just my two cents for today.
