For this month:
10 tips on the Braille Doodle

Here are 10 great benefits of using a Braille Doodle — the tactile drawing and learning board designed for blind and low-vision learners:
1.
Makes drawing accessible
The BrailleDoodle lets students create tactile images they can actually feel, making art and diagrams much more inclusive.
2.
Builds early Braille literacy
Kids can practice Braille letters and symbols hands-on, which helps reinforce reading and writing skills through touch.
3.
Encourages creativity
Users can doodle, design shapes, and tell stories through tactile art, helping imagination grow just like visual drawing tools do for sighted students.
4.
Supports STEM learning
Teachers can use it for tactile graphs, geometry, maps, charts, and science diagrams, making complex concepts easier to understand.
5.
Improves fine motor skills
Pressing stylus points into the board strengthens hand coordination and finger control.
6.
Promotes independent learning
Students can explore, create, and correct work on their own without always needing visual assistance.
7.
Reusable and eco-friendly
The board can be erased and used again and again, reducing paper waste from embossed worksheets.
8.
Great for inclusive classrooms
Sighted and blind students can collaborate together using the same learning tool, helping classrooms feel more connected and accessible.
9.
Boosts confidence
Being able to independently create tactile artwork and notes can help students feel more capable and empowered.
10.
Makes learning more fun
Interactive tactile activities are often more engaging than traditional worksheets, especially for younger learners.

Important tips from the travel table

From the pages of Donna’s diary
An accessible pottery studio
As an avid potter with a vision impairment, I really appreciate being able to work in a studio that is very accessible to me and I thank my instructor Shaun Kelly for making it happen.
Here are some points for consideration.

* Work tables are roomy and there is enough room for tools, clay, space to roll out and build.
* Enough room for a bowl of water for cleaning paint brushes and washing hands.
* Paper to use when working is close at hand.
* Tables are widely spaced away from each other.
Chairs are comfortable to sit in.
* Glazes and wheels are easy to find.
* Shelves are well organized.
* Work tables are easy to find.
* The studio is well lit and temps are well regulated.
* Washrooms and sinks are easy to find.
This is my view of an accessible pottery studio.

I’m Donna J. Jodhan enjoying my travels.

Practical and natural!
Welcome to my Donna’s did you know diary for this month and pleased to share the following with you.

Here’s what I learned for this month.

1) What is the difference between Irish coffee and Royal coffee?
Irish coffee contains Irish whisky.
Royal coffee contains brandy

2) The functions of the vein and the artery:
Arteries carry blood from the heart
And veins bring blood to the heart.

3) How can you tell that shampoo is no longer good to use?
Well, it is watery.
It has lost its smell/fragrance.

4) The difference between chlorine and bromine?
Chlorine is less costly than Bromine.
Bromine is much easier with one’s eyes than is Chlorine.
Both are used in the water of a swimming pool.

5) Some healing powers of honey?
Make a mixture of 3 parts honey and one part of lime or lemon juice.
Shake well.
Take a teaspoon of this mixture before retiring to your bed every night.
Voila! You get to sleep like a baby.

6) Another healing power of honey?
If you need to take care of a cut or bruise, here is what you can do.
Make a poultice out of a paste of honey
And wrap firmly around cut or bruise.
Leave for a few hours.
Voila! Cut/bruise is much better.

7) A possible reason for taking one’s blood pressure on the left arm?
Just maybe it’s because one’s heart is on the left side.

8) About water in your boat versus water around you?
Water around you does not sink your boat.
It is the water that gets into your boat.

9) How do you ensure that contents of a bottle will not leak?
First, fill the bottle with water and cover tightly.
Next turn the bottle upside down.
If the water stays in the bottle then it is safe to fill your bottle with your desired contents.

10) About your blood pressure and your pulse?
Your blood pressure rate is based on your mental state .
Best to take it when you are calm and settled.
Sit comfortable with enough back support.
Do not cross your legs.
As for your pulse rate?
It is based on your movement/activity before you take it.
Your pulse rate is always higher right after you engage in rushing around.

From the scam watchers
Donna J. Jodhan is a world renowned advocate, author, blogger, sight loss coach, dinner mystery writer and producer, entrepreneur, law graduate, and podcast commentator.
Donna has been in the business since 2000 and her many roles have allowed her to recognize that there is a growing need for consumers and clients to be made aware of some of the most dangerous and popular scams.
Donna herself has been unwittingly scammed over the years a few times and now she is using her skills, experience, knowledge, and expertise to help others avoid pitfalls and heartache.
And as a vision impaired professional and person she is ready to help you stay ahead!
Donna knows only too well how much we all need to work overtime to protect the most vulnerable from those unscrupulous scammers!

Please read her latest suite of scams and she would love to hear from you with your own feedback.

Here are 3 of the most common scams that tend to spike during October:
1.
Halloween Costume & Decoration Shopping Scams
Scammers create fake online stores advertising “huge Halloween sales” on costumes, decorations, or candy. People pay, but the items never arrive — or they receive cheap knockoffs.
Red flags:
•
Prices that seem way too low
•
Websites with no reviews or contact info
•
Only accepting unusual payment methods
2.
Charity Donation Scams
In October, scammers often pretend to collect donations for breast cancer awareness campaigns or seasonal causes. Fake charities may contact people by text, email, or social media.
Red flags:
•
Pressure to donate immediately
•
Requests for gift cards or cryptocurrency
•
Vague information about where the money goes
3.
Package Delivery & “Missed Shipment” Text Scams
Since people order lots of Halloween items online, fake shipping texts become more common. Messages claim there’s a problem with your package and ask you to click a link. The link steals passwords or payment info.
Red flags:
•
Strange links
•
Messages from unknown numbers
•
Requests for personal information or fees
A newer trend is scammers using AI-generated voices or realistic-looking messages to make these scams more convincing.
