Making social events more accessible

Hello everyone:
Each month I will be responding to a question; chosen from a pool of some of the most commonly asked ones that I have been asked over the years and continue to be asked.
This month, I’d like to answer the following question:
Making social events more accessible
Before you say no or turn thumbs down on these suggestions; consider these thoughts.
You can definitely increase your revenue and reduce both your internal and external costs and here’s how.

Take it from me! I have been an accessibility awareness consultant and advisor since 1998 and I continue to help companies to increase their revenues, reduce their costs, and reach hidden consumer markets!

Now that it appears that we are going to be living with the Covid virus for a long time, we need to ensure that our social events not just adhere to the restrictions of such things as social distancing, but also to ensure that accessibility continues to be a part of these events.

It may not be as difficult as you may be thinking; it just requires that we make sure that we cover the important aspects of planning for social events. However we also need to keep in mind that the nature of social events have also changed.
For this month I am going to give you some suggestions to help you stay within the lines of acceptance.

No more huge events for now with lots of people crowded into rooms.
Small events will be the order of the day.
Check in your area to see how many persons are allowed in an indoor event.
Provide hand sanitizers, hand wipes, and masks; they do not need to be reusable.
Make sure that guests with disabilities know where to find these supplies.
This applies especially to those with vision impairments.
If you need to have indicators on floors or carpets to guide your guests as to where to go, where to line up, or anything else like this, make sure that these indicators are brightly coloured and that you provide assistance for those with vision impairments.
The same would apply for when guests need to know where to sit; provide assistance especially to those with vision impairments.
In the case of the serving of food, you will need to provide extra assistance to those with a disability.

This should be enough to get you started.

We are pleased to highlight the newest apps.
…. New and Noteworthy App Entries

  1. DDHeroes – Dragon Dungeon (iOS/iPadOS, Free) The DDHeroes is a turn based strategy war game. Heroes running around the map with creatures in their armies, battling other creatures and hero armies, gaining experience and learning new skills, collecting resources and artifacts, capturing mines and castles and building improvements to existing castles in order to produce and hire more powerful creatures. Usually the aim is to rule the world by defeating all other heroes and capturing all of their castles. A player can have multiple heroes either running or sailing around the map or garrisoned in a castle. Each adventure turn (consisting of you and AI moves) is represented as a single day, and days are organized into cycles of weeks and months. At the start of each week, creature dwellings produce new recruits, and in most cases neutral armies will increase in size. The primary resource is gold, which is generated by towns on a daily basis. Gold alone is sufficient for obtaining basic buildings and most creatures. As construction progresses, increasing amounts of secondary resources such as wood, ore, gems, crystal, sulfur, and mercury are required. These resources, as well as gold, are produced at mines and other secondary structures, which are located on the map and require heroes to capture them. As with towns, mines can also be captured by enemy heroes, presenting an additional avenue for conflict. Combat occurs on a hexagonal grid battlefield, and turn-based too. Creatures in an army are represented by unit stacks, each of which consists of a single type of creature, in any quantity. Five of stacks are available to each army, and army morale suffers with mixing incompatible unit types. Several random factors affect combat result, and hero abilities, artifacts and spells influence a unit’s luck and morale ratings. A unit that triggers good luck deals more or receives less damage, and a unit that triggers high morale receives an extra chance to attack. Heroes do not act as units, and cannot be harmed. Surrendering allows the player to keep the remaining units intact after paying a heavy price in gold. The strategy logic and user interactive concept are inspired by the original Jon Van Caneghem’s Heroes of Might and Magic II. Most maps in the game come from public domain generated by fans and licensed by the creative commons license or free to use license. Let’s start playing with the following features: 6 types of castles/heroes, 4 primary skills, 14 secondary skills, over 70 spells/artifacts/structures, 9 terrain types and 66 creatures.

It’s coffee’s perfect mate. And when that creamer comes flavored in a handy bottle from the dairy case, even more perfect, right? Oh, but so pricey! Generally, popular brands like Coffeemate, International Delight, Dunkin Donuts Extra Extra and Natural Bliss retail for $.10 to $.30 per ounce. Ouch! But you can make it yourself for a fraction of the price—and it is so easy. The hard part will be not using it all at once. Bonus: You’ll know exactly what’s in it and you can control sweetness and the flavors, too. Stored in the refrigerator in a glass bottle or similar container with the tight-fitting in the refrigerator, homemade coffee creamer is good for at least 10 to 14 days. Generally, homemade coffee creamers start with a base to which you add sweetener and flavor. There are two ways to make coffee creamer base—one that starts out sweet (Base Recipe #1) and one that is not sweet to start (Base Recipe #2). CREAMER RECIPES USING BASE RECIPE #1 Creamer Base Recipe #1: This recipe uses sweetened condensed milk. The most popular national brand is Eagle Sweetened Condensed Milk. Another is La Lechera Milk Condensed Sweetened. I use my store brand, Kroger Sweetened Condensed Milk, which is exactly the same as Eagle brand, but half the price of Eagle and often on sale for even less—about $1.59 for a 14-ounce can. Here’s the deal with sweetened condensed milk. No matter the brand it contains are only two ingredients: milk and sugar. Ingredients include: 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk 1 3/4 cup whole milk Directions: Pour ingredients into a one-quart canning jar. Apply the lid. Shake well until ingredients are fully combined. From here you simply add whatever flavorings (below) to create your favorite sweet, flavored coffee creamer. Each recipe the follows assumes you are adding the stated ingredients to one full recipe of Creamer Base #1. Start with the flavoring amounts below, then you may want to adjust to match your taste. If you want a sweeter creamer, add sugar, blue agave or other sweetener of choice. Want it creamier? Substitute half and half or even heavy cream for the whole milk in Creamer Base #1. Just realize this will increase the fat content substantially. Note: If a recipe calls for a dry ingredient, such as cocoa powder, a spice cinnamon or a thick ingredient like honey, heat a small amount of the base along with these items in a small sauce pan to dissolve those Ingredients so they will be absorbed into the base. Pour the finished creamer through a fine sieve to remove any tiny solids or bits of spice that main remain. Now you won’t have them floating in your coffee. 1. French Vanilla Ingredients include 2 teaspoons (more or less to taste) pure vanilla extract Vanilla Bean 2 teaspoons vanilla bean paste Mocha 2 to 3 tablespoons chocolate syrup, to taste 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract Chocolate Almond 1 tablespoon cocoa powder 1 teaspoon almond extract Strudel 1 tablespoon cinnamon 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 teaspoon almond extract Vanilla Caramel 2 tablespoons caramel ice cream topping 2 teaspoons vanilla extract Chocolate Raspberry 2 teaspoons cocoa powder 2 tablespoons raspberry syrup 2. Irish Cream Ingredients include 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup 1 teaspoon instant coffee 1-2 teaspoons vanilla extract 1 teaspoon almond extract Coconut 2 teaspoons coconut extract 3. Samoa Ingredients include 2 teaspoons coconut extract (or sub coconut milk or cream of coconut, heated & strained, for the milk/cream) 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup 2 tablespoons caramel ice cream topping 4. Peppermint Patty Ingredients include 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup 1 teaspoon peppermint extract Cinnamon Vanilla 2 teaspoons cinnamon 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract 5. Pumpkin Spice Ingredients include 3 tablespoons pureed pumpkin 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice 4 tablespoons maple syrup 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 6. Honey Vanilla Ingredients include 1/4 cup honey 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract 7. Almond Joy Ingredients include 1 to 2 teaspoons coconut extract 1 teaspoon almond extract 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup 8. Sweet Cream Ingredients include Use 1 3/4 cups heavy cream in please of the whole milk in the base recipe 2 teaspoons vanilla extract OR the inside of a vanilla bean, scraped 1 teaspoon almond extract Chocolate Orange 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup 1 to 2 teaspoons orange extract 9. Hazelnut Ingredients include 2 teaspoons hazelnut extract Chocolate Hazelnut 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup 2 teaspoons hazelnut extract 10. Cinnamon Cake Ingredients include 2 teaspoons cinnamon 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 11. Salted Caramel Ingredients include 2 to 3 tablespoons caramel ice cream topping 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste 12. Eggnog Ingredients include Replace milk in base recipe with equal amount of heavy cream 1 teaspoons vanilla extract 2 teaspoons rum extract 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg 13. Toasted Almond Ingredients include 2 teaspoons almond extract CREAMER RECIPES USING BASE RECIPE #2 Creamer Base Recipe #2: This base is unsweetened which gives you a lot of control for how sweet you wish your homemade creamer to be—and the type of sweetener you prefer. Choices include sugar, stevia, blue agave and even maple syrup, for starters Ingredients: 1 cup heavy whipping cream 1 cup whole milk Directions: Whisk together until fully combined or pour into a Mason jar, apply lid tightly then shake to combine. Store in the refrigerator. From here you simply add whatever flavorings (below) to create your favorite sweet, flavored coffee creamer. Double even triple this recipe as you desire. Curiously, this may appear to be a complicated way to make half and half, and you’re partially correct. However, starting with heavy whipping cream makes a creamier, slightly thicker result, which I prefer and you may as well. Note: If a recipe calls for a dry ingredient, such as cocoa powder, a spice like cinnamon or a thick ingredient like honey, pour all ingredients into a sauce pan and head over medium heat to dissolve those ingredients so they will be absorbed into the base. Pour the finished creamer through a fine sieve to remove any tiny solids or bits of spice that may remain. Now you won’t have them floating in your coffee. 1. Strudel Ingredients include 2 cups Creamer Base #2 4 tablespoons maple syrup 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 1 teaspoon almond extract 2. Chocolate Almond Ingredients include 2 cups Creamer Base #2 2 tablespoons cocoa powder 4 tablespoons blue agave, sugar or maple syrup 1 teaspoon almond extract 3. Pumpkin Spice Ingredients include 2 cups Creamer Base #2 3 tablespoons pureed pumpkin 1 teaspoon pumpkin spice 4 tablespoons maple syrup 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Whisk together creamer base, pumpkin, pumpkin spice, and maple syrup in a medium saucepan over medium heat. When mixture begins to steam, remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Strain through a fine mesh sieve, pour into a glass bottle and store in the refrigerator. 5. French Vanilla Ingredients include 2 cups Creamer Base #2 4 tablespoons blue agave (or maple syrup) 1 vanilla bean Whisk together creamer base and maple syrup in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Cut vanilla bean in half, and scrape out seeds. Add seeds and vanilla bean to milk mixture. Turn off heat, cover the pot and steep for 30 minutes. After mixture has steeped, strain through a fine mesh sieve, pour into a glass bottle and store in the refrigerator. 6. Peppermint Mocha Ingredients include 2 cups Creamer Base #2 4 tablespoons sugar, blue agave or maple syrup, to taste 3 tablespoons cocoa powder 1 teaspoon peppermint extract Consider all of these flavoring ideas to be just the tip of the delicious coffee “iceberg!” The possibilities are endless. As you come up with new flavor pairing and delicious options, please share! Want it creamier? Substitute half and half or even heavy cream for the whole milk in Creamer Base #1. Just realize this will increase the fat content substantially.
Note: If a recipe calls for a dry ingredient, such as cocoa powder, a spice cinnamon or a thick ingredient like honey, heat a small amount of the base along with these items
in a small sauce pan to dissolve those Ingredients so they will be absorbed
into the base. Pour the finished creamer through a fine sieve to remove any tiny solids or bits of spice that main remain. Now you won’t have them floating in your coffee.

CREAMER RECIPES USING BASE RECIPE #2
Creamer Base Recipe #2: This base is unsweetened which gives you a lot of
control for how sweet you wish your homemade creamer to be—and the type of sweetener you prefer. Choices include sugar, stevia, blue agave and even maple syrup, for starters
    Ingredients:
    1 cup heavy whipping cream
    1 cup whole milk
    Directions:
Whisk together until fully combined or pour into a Mason jar, apply lid tightly then shake to combine. Store in the refrigerator. From here you simply add whatever flavorings
(below) to create your favorite sweet, flavored coffee creamer. Double
even triple this recipe as you desire.
Curiously, this may appear to be a complicated way to make half and half, and you’re partially correct. However, starting with heavy whipping cream makes a creamier, slightly
thicker result, which I prefer and you may as well.
Note: If a recipe calls for a dry ingredient, such as cocoa powder, a spice like cinnamon or a thick ingredient like honey, pour all ingredients into a sauce pan and head over
medium heat to dissolve those ingredients so they will be absorbed into
the base. Pour the finished creamer through a fine sieve to remove any tiny solids or bits of spice that may remain. Now you won’t have them floating in your coffee.
  14. Strudel
    Ingredients include
    2 cups Creamer Base #2
    4 tablespoons maple syrup
    1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
    2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    1 teaspoon almond extract
  15. Chocolate Almond
    Ingredients include
    2 cups Creamer Base #2
    2 tablespoons cocoa powder
4 tablespoons blue agave, sugar or maple syrup
    1 teaspoon almond extract
  16. Pumpkin Spice
    Ingredients include
    2 cups Creamer Base #2
    3 tablespoons pureed pumpkin
    1 teaspoon pumpkin spice
    4 tablespoons maple syrup
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Whisk together creamer base, pumpkin, pumpkin spice, and maple syrup in a
medium saucepan over medium heat. When mixture begins to steam, remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Strain through a fine mesh sieve, pour into a glass
bottle and store in the refrigerator.
  17. French Vanilla
    Ingredients include
    2 cups Creamer Base #2
4 tablespoons blue agave (or maple syrup)
    1 vanilla bean
Whisk together creamer base and maple syrup in a medium saucepan over
medium heat.
  18. Peppermint Mocha
    Ingredients include
    2 cups Creamer Base #2
4 tablespoons sugar, blue agave or maple syrup, to taste
    3 tablespoons cocoa powder
    1 teaspoon peppermint extract
Consider all of these flavoring ideas to be just the tip of the delicious coffee “iceberg!” The possibilities are endless. As you come up with new flavor pairing and delicious
    options, please share!
    Enjoy!

Using an accessible travel app

I can tell you that there are several of these out there to choose from. From those that will tell you what’s in your immediate area or surrounding to those that can help you to navigate your area.

Each of these apps comes highly recommended. They are jam packed with details for your pleasure and there are even those that go beyond the call of duty. For example, the one that I am thinking of enables you to interact with live agents who can help you to identify objects, documents, and so much more.

Heck, there are those that can help you to do such things as identify colours, help you find your hotel room when used correctly, and those that will give you approximations of distances between you and a specific location. You can even use some of these apps to help you navigate the contents of your suitcase, your room, and so much more.

All of this has helped to make travel more enjoyable for a blind/vision impaired person.

I’m Donna J. Jodhan enjoying my travels.

Some very useful tips on using Alexa:
Hey Alexa
A) Guess the prices of every day (or not quite every day) items from Amazon.com. Earn extra points by playing classic mini games like Plinko, Showcase Showdown, and more. Just say, “Alexa, open the Price is Right.”
B) From sleep timers and alarms, to reminders, and calendar management, Alexa can take care of the details so you can focus on the holidays. Just say, “Alexa, remind me to take the dog out before bed.”
C) To keep you organized and your dishes ready on time, Alexa can help you with multiple cooking timers at once. Just say, “Alexa, set a rib roast timer for 20 minutes.”
D) Link your phone and ask Alexa to call it when it’s misplaced. Just say, “Alexa, find my phone.”

Dishwasher Film

  • Fill dishwasher with all your glasses and porcelain china. Never put any silver, aluminum or brass in the washer when this method is used or you will have a mess. Put a bowl in the bottom of the dishwasher. Pour 1 cup of household bleach into the bowl. Run through washing cycle but do not dry. This is important. Fill bowl again with 1 cup white vinegar and let the dishwasher go through the entire cycle. This will remove all film, not only from your glasses but from your dishwasher too.

Bee Sting Treatment + A Quick Natural Home Remedy – Dr. Axe
As the weather warms up and people spend more time outdoors, itís a very smart idea to have some bee sting treatment options on hand. As you probably already know, a bee sting
is a sting from any type of bee, while a wasp sting comes from a wasp. For most people, bee stings are an annoying and painful occurrence that can be treated without medical
intervention.
According to the University of California Integrated Pest Management Program, ìOnly a very limited portion of the population ó one to two people out of 1,000 ó is allergic or
hypersensitive to bee or wasp stings.î (1 <
http://ipm.ucanr.edu/PMG/PESTNOTES/pn7449.html

)
If you already know that you are allergic to bee stings or have been stung multiple times, then you should not use a natural bee sting treatment. Bee sting home remedies are
definitely not meant for anyone who experiences severe reactions to a bee sting. These reactions might include breathing difficulty or throat tightness and other indications
of a severe allergic response. However, according to National Capital Poison Control, the most common ìnormalî reaction to a sting from a bee, wasp, yellow jacket or hornet is
not too serious. It usually involves some pain, swelling and itching only at the area where you got stung. (2 )
I hope you wonít have to use any bee sting treatment Iím about to discuss.
But just in case you or a loved one do get stung by one of those buzzing honey makers, youíll know just what to do after reading this article.
Bee Sting Interesting Facts
There are around 20,000 different species of bees in the world
today.
Only female bees can sting thanks to the venom they store in a sac
attached to their stinger, which is part of the female beeís reproductive system. (3 < http://pestworldforkids.org/pest-guide/bees/ ) Some kinds of bees, like Africanized honeybees, < http://entnemdept.ufl.edu/creatures/misc/bees/ahb.htm are more likely than are other bees to swarm and sting in a group. You are more likely to get a bee sting if your work or hobbies involve spending time outdoors or if you live somewhere that bees are especially active or with beehives nearby. (4 )
Approximately 3% of people stung by bees and wasps experience an
allergic reaction. Up to 0.8% of bee sting victims experience the severe, life-threatening allergic reaction called anaphylaxis. (5
< http://www.medicinenet.com/bee_sting_treatment/views.htm ) Some kinds of bees actually die after stinging because their stingers (attached to their abdomen) have little hooks on them and when they go to fly away after stinging someone, part of their abdomens are torn away. (6 < http://pestworldforkids.org/pest-guide/bees/ ) Common Bee Sting Symptoms When a bee stings you, it leaves a behind a venomous toxin that can cause unpleasant symptoms. Itís not uncommon to be stung by a bee. Most of the time the sting will probably come from a honey bee. Yellow jackets, which are actually wasps, not bees, are the leading cause of insect sting allergic reactions in the United States. (7 < http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/297999.php ) According to the The National Capital Poison Control: All symptoms of an ëordinaryí sting are at the sting site itself. Expected effects are pain, swelling, redness, and itching. All effects are at that specific spot. Even if the area is still red, swollen, itchy, and painful the next day ó itís an expected reaction, not an allergic reaction. (8 )
Most of the time, a bee or wasp sting causes minor symptoms at the sting site including: (9 )
Pain
Redness
Swelling
Burning or itching
Bee Sting Treatment: 7 Bee Sting Remedies
For ordinary bee stings that do not cause an allergic reaction, experts agree that a home bee sting treatment is enough. If you do not have multiple bee stings or an allergic
reaction, home remedies for bee stings are all you need for an ordinary bee sting, according to sources like the Mayo Clinic.
(10
)
Before using any natural bee sting remedy or wasp sting remedy, Poison Control advises that you do two things: (11 )

  1. Remove the stinger: When you get stung by a bee, the first thing you
should do is determine if the stinger is still present in your skin (youíre looking for a small black dot at the sting site). If it is, then you should scrape it out with an
object that is not sharp, like a finger nail or the edge of a credit card. If may seem like a good idea, but do not use tweezers or fingers to pull out a stinger because this
only pushes more venom into the skin.
  2. Sanitize the area: Once the stinger is out, you should cleanse the
sting site well with soap and water.
At this point, conventional treatment of stings often includes applying a cortisone cream or an antihistamine cream. For severe itching many people also take diphenhydramine
    <
    https://www.drugs.com/diphenhydramine.html

(brand names like BenadrylÆ). If you would rather try a natural bee sting treatment, then here are some of the best and most effective options:

  1. Baking Soda + Water
Baking soda uses and remedies < https://draxe.com/baking-soda-uses/ are pretty endless. In fact, baking soda is even part of a natural bees sting treatment. Rather than using a conventional steroid or antihistamine cream, Poison Control also instructs that you can apply a paste of good old baking soda and water. (12 ) You definitely donít want to forget this simplistic, yet highly
effective, bee sting treatment, which also works as a wasp sting remedy.
  2. Ice
One of the simplest, yet most effective, remedies for a bee or wasp sting is to apply an ice pack to the area where you got stung. The CDC also recommends ice as part of basic
bee or wasp sting management. The ice will help with both inflammation as well as itching. It will also help draw blood to the sting site for optimal healing. (13
    <
    https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/topics/insects/beeswasphornets.html
    )
  3. Elevation
The arms and legs can be common sting sites. If you are stung on your arm or leg, elevate that affected limb. Elevation will allow gravity to help fluid leave the swollen
area where you were stung. (14
    )
  4. Apple Cider Vinegar
Another great home bee sting treatment that you likely already have on hand is apple cider vinegar < https://draxe.com/apple-cider-vinegar-uses/ . By applying apple cider vinegar to the area where you got stung, it can help to neutralize bee venom and therefore calm unwanted bee sting symptoms. An easy way to apply apple cider vinegar to a bee sting is to saturate the non-sticky, absorbent pad of a bandage and put the bandage over the sting. This way, that padded area comes in contact with the area where the stinger went into your skin. You can also soak a clean bit of cloth in apple cider vinegar and apply it to the area for 15 to 20 minutes at a time. (15 )
  5. Honey
So a honeybee may have been the insect behind your throbbing sting, but what a honeybee makes can also help to quell the inflammation and itch. It can also help to prevent
infection. Iím talking about honey and I recommend raw honey <
    https://draxe.com/the-many-health-benefits-of-raw-honey/
in particular for its higher anti-inflammatory enzyme
content. Raw honey contains 22 amino acids, 27 minerals and 5,000 enzymes. When honey is applied to a sting site or wound, the enzyme glucose oxidase actually produces
hydrogen peroxide. This creates an inhospitable environment for bacteria. (16 <
    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12804080
) You can apply a small amount of high quality
honey to the sting area, cover it with a loose bandage and leave it on for an hour or less. You can do this several times per day as needed.
  6. Activated Charcoal
You can mix activated charcoal powder with water or oil to create a paste and apply it as a bee sting home remedy (also a wasp sting remedy). The activated charcoal
    <
    https://draxe.com/activated-charcoal-uses/
helps to draw out any leftover venom and calm bee sting and wasp sting symptoms. (17 <
    http://naturalsociety.com/home-remedies-
    for-bee-stings/
    )
  7. Witch Hazel
Pimples, mosquito bites, bee stings, wasp stings the list goes on and on when it comes to all the ways witch hazel < https://draxe.com/witch-hazel/ can calm inflammatory skin issues. Witch hazel is an astringent made from the leaves and bark of the witch hazel plant. Simply apply witch hazel directly to the sting site as needed. (18 )
How to Make a Bee Sting Home Remedy
    Ingredients:
    1 capsule of activated charcoal
    Ω tablespoon of coconut oil
    Directions:
  8. Pour the contents of one activated charcoal capsule into a small bowl
and add the coconut oil, mixing well.
  9. Dab the mixture onto the affected area.
  10. Reapply every 30 minutes until itching and discomfort subside.
You may want to cover the sting area with a bandage after you apply the mixture since charcoal stains whatever it touches very easily. You can also try my DIY Healing Poultice
Remedy < https://draxe.com/poultice/ , which I remember my grandma using on my bee stings as a kid. Bee Sting Possible Side Effects and Caution A bee sting can cause a very severe allergic reaction called anaphylaxis. Anaphylaxis often initially reveals itself as severe itching of the eyes or face. Within minutes, more serious symptoms can develop including: (19 < https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/articles/anaphylaxis ) Swelling, which can cause problems with swallowing and breathing Hives and swelling Chest tightness and a feeling of tightness in the throat Sudden weakness Increased heart rate Decrease in blood pressure Cramps Abdominal pain Vomiting Diarrhea If you show any symptoms of anaphylaxis, you must seek medical help immediately. Anaphylaxis can quickly cause shock, unconsciousness and even death if not treated fast enough. According to Mayo Clinic, most bee stings do not require a trip to the emergency room or a visit to your doctor. However, in more serious cases, you definitely need to seek immediate medical care. If youíre having a serious reaction to a bee sting and just one or two symptoms that suggest anaphylaxis, then call 911. If you have previously been prescribed an emergency epinephrine autoinjector (like an EpiPen), use it immediately as directed. People who experience a severe allergic reaction to a bee sting have a 30 to 60 percent chance of anaphylaxis the next time theyíre stung. Adults also tend to have more severe reactions than children. Adults are more likely to die of anaphylaxis than children are. (20 )
Seek prompt medical care if bees have swarmed you and stung you multiple times. Multiple stings can be a medical emergency in children, older adults, and people who have heart
or breathing problems. Wasp or bee stings in the mouth or nose, even in people not known to be allergic to bee stings, also require emergency medical care since stings in
these areas can lead to swelling that can interfere with breathing.
Bee stings can itch, but avoid scratching since that can cause infection. If your mild bee sting symptoms donít resolve within a few days or youíve begun to have other
allergic response symptoms, then see your doctor right away.
You can also call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 any time if you have questions about how to handle a sting and whether or not you or someone you know is having an allergic
    reaction.
    Final Thoughts
Bee stings are certainly not pleasant and for some people they can even be life-threatening. As long as someone does not experience a serious allergic reaction, then doing a
bee sting treatment in the comfort of your own home can be all that you need. Bee stings may not be fun, but at least a natural bee sting treatment is easy and cost effective.
According to the CDC, there are also some ways you can prevent stings in the first place, including: (21 <
    https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/topics/insects/beeswasphornets.html
    )
Avoid spending time around flowering plants and definitely stay
far away from known bee hives or wasp nests.
Donít use perfumed soaps, shampoos, conditioners, lotions and
deodorants, especially ones with synthetic scents <
    https://draxe.com/dangers-synthetic-scents/
    .
If you know youíre going to spend extended time outdoors, itís
also smart not to wear perfume or cologne.
    Wear smooth-finished, light colored clothing.
    Avoid consuming bananas
    <
    https://draxe.com/on-the-chopping-block-bananas/
outdoors since they can attract bees.
Wear clothing that covers as much of the body as possible (without
    overheating of course).
If a single stinging insect is flying near you, itís very
important to remain relaxed and still.
Donít swat at a stinging insect since swatting may cause it to
    sting.

From the pages of Donna’s diary
Should I travel just in my country?

There are definite advantages to traveling just within my country given all of the continued Covid restrictions. However and this is just a personal perspective, I intend to travel abroad in the near future.

Traveling within my country would eliminate the need to face challenges at the airport but if I were to fly domestically I am not sure what the differences would be re domestic and international air travel.

Traveling by train may be much less challenging and I know of several friends who have been quite happy with their train trips.

All this being said, I do not think that anyone should give up that easily when deciding to travel internationally. As long as the parameters are clearly defined re the covid restrictions; this will only help.

I’m Donna J. Jodhan enjoying my travels.

Get to a healthier and more active life with Google Fit!
Itís hard to know how much or what kind of activity you need to stay healthy. Thatís why Google Fit collaborated with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the American Heart Association (AHA) to bring you Heart Points, an activity goal that can help improve your health.
Activities that get your heart pumping harder have tremendous health benefits for your heart and mind. Youíll earn one Heart Point for each minute of moderate activity like picking up the pace when walking your dog, and double points for more intense activities like running. It takes just 30-minutes of brisk walking five days a week to reach the AHA and WHOís recommended amount of physical activity shown to reduce the risk of heart disease, improve sleep, and increase overall mental wellbeing.
Google Fit will also help you:
  • Get insights and see stats such as heart rate, speed, pace, route, and more for your runs, walks, and bike rides.
  • See your daily progress on your Heart Points and steps. Meeting your goals all the time? Easily adjust your goals to keep challenging yourself to achieve a healthy heart and mind.
  • All physical activity can help you lead a healthier life, and with Google Fit you can track it all in one place. Working with your favorite fitness apps and devices, Google Fit builds a journal of your activity. And to make sure Fit never misses a workout, you can manually add any activity your other apps didnít track – from Aerobics to Zumba!
  • Google Fit can show you info from many of your favorite apps and devices that are compatible with Apple Health to give you a holistic view of your health, so youíll never lose track of your progress. These include Lifesum, Runkeeper, Strava, MyFitnessPal, Headspace, and more.

  1. Nocked (iOS/iPadOS, US$4.99)
The peasants of Nottingham bow under the weight of Prince Johnís taxes; nobles fall to the Sheriffís political machinations; deserters from the Crusades pillage the land; and fairies lure the unwary into the depths of mist-shrouded Sherwood Forest, never to be seen again. Step into the chaos of a magical England at the end of the Third Crusade. Maid Marian hides breathless amidst the brambles after the sack of her fatherís castle; Little John charges a bodyweight in gold to cross a lonely log; and Will Scarlet holds court in a brokedown tower surrounded by trees as tall as the sky, waiting for a king who will never come. The time is ripe, a spark is lit ñ from the ashes of your home, from the shadow of anonymity, step into legend. You are Robin Hood.
Nocked! is a lushly-illustrated, text-driven role-playing game playable for minutes or hours at a time. Define the deeds and identity of Robin Hood, outlaw of Sherwood Forest; recruit allies, forge alliances, find love; and chart a path between war, negotiation, and dangerous magics. Your choices are remembered and your actions shape the world, but you canít do it alone.
Story and strategy collide as your reputation spreads and Merry Men join your band: Build and expand a base in the hidden deeps, manage your earnings from raids on tax collectors, and prepare for the coming of the Sheriff of Nottingham. There is no sure and easy path to victory, no one decision that will save your resistance; will you fall beneath the Sheriffís boot heel, or will you build a movement to last the ages? The choice is yours.
