Ask the Coach!

January 2026

My name is Donna Jodhan and I am using my extensive experience as a sight loss coach as well as my lived experience to share and respond to questions that are submitted to me and I also invite you to share your thoughts on questions asked.

For this month:  a question from Glenda in Chicago Illinois.

Glenda is looking for a proven technique to safely crack an egg.

My response:

Glenda, here’s what I normally do and my granny taught me this.

I use a fork or spoon and tap the top of the egg.

When I am sure that there is a crack at the top of the egg, I slowly insert my little finger and widen the crack a bit so as to allow the liquid from the egg to escape.

I allow the liquid to fall into a small bowl.

I hope that this helps.

A question from Tami in Saint Lewis Missouri.

Tami wants some hints on marinating meat so that she can get the maximum taste.

My response:

Tami, here’s what I do.

First I thaw out my meat completely.

Next I marinate using my favourite spices.

I make sure that I am using a deep and large enough bowl for my meat.

Then I gently toss the meat in the bowl to ensure that all of my spices are combined into every morsel or piece of my meat.

Then I put my meat into an air tight container and cover tightly.

I refrigerate for at least a few hours before cooking or baking.

A question from Jamie in London England.

Jamie is looking for an effective way to spread butter on his toast.

My response:

Jamie,I normally use either a butter knife or a spreader.

I paste the butter liberally all over the spreader or knife.

Then I start from one end of my toast and spread the butter vertically down the entire slice of toast.

I do this a few times checking to make sure that I have spread all of the butter from knife/spreader to my toast.
