Virtual versus face to face
By Donna J. Jodhan
The way I see it is that there is a place in our world for both of these
channels and there are definite advantages for both. There are many who may
say that the virtual way is the one to go as it is the one that you can use
to help cope with a busy world where the need to cut down on unnecessary
interaction is a real one. On the other hand, there are many who would
readily agree that the face to face way needs to remain a part of our world
as it gives us the chance to interact directly with real persons.
Whichever side of the fence we choose, we should keep in mind that there are
different strokes for different folks. Younger persons may prefer the
virtual way whereas the more matured crowd may favor the face to face way.
Yesterday’s generation was brought up in the face to face way of socializing
whereas today’s generation was born into the virtual way.
We need to find a way to enable both ways to co-exist. We need to find a
way to keep both ways alive and well because each of these ways offers
different advantages. The way I see it is that there is really no
disadvantage. True it is that we live in a busy world that continues to get
busier every day but that’s okay. The face to face way of socializing can
be used to help cope with the stresses of the day and the virtual way can be
used to cope with things on the fly.
So, let us continue to promote both ways. Let’s try very hard to combine
both ways and exploit the advantages of both. Let us look at the benefits
of both and continue to find ways to utilize them to our advantage.
