Protecting your privacy – making out your will

Protecting your privacy
Each week we at the business desk will be presenting you with a tip on how
to better protect your privacy and this is our newest feature.

We are constantly striving to protect ourselves from scams and scammers, but
most of all we need to ensure that our privacy, confidentiality, and
independence are kept safe from prying eyes and those who thrive on
destroying our right to these precious commodities.

We welcome your feedback and look forward to bringing you great tips.

Making out a will
Unlike a few years ago, most lawyers have the ability to provide you with
drafts of your will in an electronic format and you need to ensure that they
can do this in a format that you can read.
However when it comes to signing those all important documents, you again
need to ensure that what you sign is what you expect to sign.

So, first ensure that you can read your draft.
Make sure that you are happy with this draft.
Then visit your lawyer to sign the document.
A lawyer would normally take extra care to ensure that you sign what you
expect to sign.
Be not afraid to ask for as many drafts as you need to before you are
satisfied that you are getting what you have asked for.

For insurance, you could ask a trusted family member or friend to accompany
you to the lawyer’s office.
Just make sure however that you really trust them or another route for you
to consider would be for you to ask your bank branch to provide someone to
go with you or even your investment or personal finance manager.
